Brand new Dell X300. Windows XP with Office XP. When I do Start>Run>powerpnt, I get an error saying it couldn't find POWERPNT.DLL. The splash image is for Powerpoint version 4.0. Clicking on the Powerpoint icon launches Powerpoint correctly, as does launching a powerpoint file. The other Start>Run commands (excel, msaccess, winword, outlook, visio) work correctly

Any ideas?

Hi,

Did you do a search to see if there are two copies of powerpnt.exe on your
PC? I can imagine why, shouldn't be, but could be the cause of the
problem...

Thanks, I did indeed do a search. I removed Powerpoint XP, did a search, and didn't really find anything. The problem appeared even after Powerpoint was removed and reinstalled. I also uninstalled and reinstalled OfficeXP. Problem still exists. How does it know that if I do Start>Run>powerpnt it should launch that executable anyways? Registry? DLL? Environment Variable? That's where I guess I'd be looking next...
