start menu

My Start menu has suddenly changed so that the left-hand column no longer
displays my most recently-used programs (except for Free Cell!).
I just went into Control Panel, Taskbar and Start Menu, Start Menu Tab and
have the radio button set for Start menu, I clicked on Customize>
General Tab[settings]:
Small icons,
Number of programs on Start menu is set to 12,
Show on Start menu: I have both Internet and Email checked and am using
Mozilla Firefox for Internet, Mozilla Thunderbird for E-mail (they both show
up).
Why do my other recently used programs no longer appear??? And how can I get
them to do so?

Pat, if you selected the "clear list button" your most recently used
program Icons would disappear. You can try this tool
from Microsoft which allows for more control over what Icons show up
there. Scroll down and download the first
TweakUI. exe file.
