Why, when I pin a Microsoft Office 2007 application to the Start Menu, does
it not start when I click on it. Applications also do not start from the
Start short cut. However, if I go into programs, they do start. Would
somebody explain?

Hello Microsoft,
Was this question too difficult or does no-one else have the same problem?

Right click the pinned shortcuts that are not working and select "Unpin from
start menu".

Now, go into Programs and select a shortcut that works. Right click the
known good shortcut and select the Pin to start menu item.

This isn't really helpful because, although I can enter the shortcut
manually, the "Start Search" which should be a very useful feature, shows
the applications - particularly Microsoft Office 2007 but does not start them
when clicked. This must be a fairly fundamental bug?

Well, you never mentioned the Start/Search feature in your original message,
the only problem you mentioned was that "pinned shortcuts" would not work???
My answer was based on your message.

Ronnie,

My original post included "Applications also do not start from the
Start short cut." Perhaps this was not clear enough? Is there an answer?

That may very well be true but it also reflects the frustration one feels
when wasting so much time trying to find the way round basic problems and
errors. In Windows, the start menu has always been a great tool and now, in
Vista, which is otherwise a superb OS, something as simple as this doesn't
appear to work in the way it should. MS does tend, sometimes, assume that
their customers are idiots but many of us do spend time looking at all of the
obvious solutions before asking for help.
