Winxp SP2
I have a few shortcuts on the top left of my start menu that do no work and
I cannot delete or remove them. Where are these located? How do I remove
them?
Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,
Right click on the icon and select Unpin from Start Menu.

Anton Pegan

I don't have the unpin choice on the ones that don't work. Remove from list
is the only choice I have.
Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,
If Remove from this list does not work, try:
1. Right click on the Start taskbar
2. Choose Properties
3. On the Start Menu tab click Customize
4. On the General tab click Clear list
This will remove all the entries from that list.

Anton Pegan

Hi Tom,
Can you drag it from the Start menu? Is there any error when you click
Remove from this list?
If they are on the top left then you can change the programs in Start menu
properties:
1. Right click on Start menu and choose Properties
2. On the Start menu tab click Customize
3. On the General tab take a look at the Start menu section
You can click to remove the thick from those two programs or choose another
program.
Best regards,
Anton Pegan

When I click on them I get the message, "The item you have selected is
unavailable. It might have been moved renamed or removed. Do you want to
remove it from the list?", but it does not remove from the list, When I
click on properties and it says "this is not a valid shortcut"
Do you know where these items are stored?
Cannot drag them because they are not valid shortcuts.
Bottom left of the start menu are not pinned, top left are pinned.
Thanks, Tom

If it is XP Start Menu then :
Right click Start | Properties | Customize
Uncheck the items from "Show on Start Menu" section.

And can you tell use the name of item(s) ?

Hi,
Take a look at the properties of the Start menu not the shortcut properties.
The registry where everything is stored is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage
If you remove the key Favorites and FavoritesChanges the top left Start menu
should have the default look (after removing you have to log off and log
back on), but as I already suggested remove them from the Start Menu
properties.

Anton Pegan

I deleted the favorites key and it went back to the default look. All
the invalid shortcuts are gone.
Thanks Tom
