What determines the order in which programmes are listed in the left-hand
panel? Every now and then the order is changed and I would like to change
the order without them going above the line at the top of the list.

Thanks.

Click on any item and drag it to the desired position. New ones will
then be added at the end.

You can also right-click anywhere in the list and select "Sort by
Name". That applies only to that list, not to sublists below it. I
can't remember whether new ones go in alphabetical order or at the
end, after a "Sort by Name".

New ones go the the end. You have to Sort by Name again. ;-)

Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately I think I may have incorrectly
described the problem.

When clicking on <Start> a list of programmes appear in the left-hand panel.
These seem to be in some random order which, rather annoyingly, changes from
time-to-time. There is no facility to put them into alphabetical order and,
when, dragging them into order they appear in a panel above the main
listing.

I would like these items to be in a preferred order but cannot see how this
may be done.

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

There is a facility to sort them alphabetically:
Right click on any item in the start menu/all programs listing, then choose
"sort by name"
