Start menu words fade after using a fullscreen application

Every time I use a fullscreen application, such as a game, my the words in my
start menu lose clarity and fade so they are no longer black. It is more
annoying than anything else.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium with a Radeon HD 3850 video card.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
