When I click on Search on the Start menu the screen freezes for a few seconds and nothing happens. Also java pop up windows will not open and using 'open in new window' is not working. I have run mcafee anti virus, ad-aware.

Hi there Ben,

First of all, to resolve the search issue, try reinstalling Windows XP Search :

Open Explorer and go to the C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the
srchasst.inf file. Right click it and select Install.
You'll need your XP CD or the files from the I386 folder.
(This fix will require you to have your Win XP CD).

The Windows\Inf folder is a hidden folder. You can adjust
your Explorer Folder Options (View tab) to Show hidden
files and folders. You can also click Start, Run and enter
%SystemRoot%\Inf to open directly to the Inf folder.

Open in New window, issue can be resolved by downloading and initiating the IEfix utility:

**Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM when prompted and navigate to the <i386> folder, if you are using an OEM version of Windows XP, then provide the following path: C:\Windows\i386

Hi Venkates
Thanks for responding, unfortunately I tried all you suggestions but the problems still persist. I am considering just re installing Windows XP although I'm not sure whether this will erase all my MP3's, OE messages etc. Any suggestions
Thanks again for your hel
Ben
