Start menu problem

I just installed Open Office 2.2 (Writer and Calc only) on my laptop running
W2K and it blew out most of my Start Menu entries. No GoBack on this
machine - any idea how I can get them back?

Sounds like the profile was damaged and is now orphaned. Look for it in
\documents and settings and copy the missing shortcuts over to the new
profile or better yet into;

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

The Start Menu under All Users was intact, so I deleted everything that was
deletable in the administrator Start Menu and copied in everything from All
Users. Hopefully the Start Menu was the only thing affected by the OO
install. I doubt it.

Thanks for getting me to think like an administrator, since I'm logged in as
one.

Hmmm.... That wasn't really the thing to do. You should now see duplicates.

No, no duplicates. The computer is a used laptop that was cleaned up (not
nearly as good as wiping the drive and reinstalling the OS, I realize)
before I bought it. There was no pre-existing information in the other
profiles that would be reflected in the All User's Start Menu, at least I
think that is the case.

Except you said you duplicated the all users shortcuts in the administrator
profile that you're logging on with. There would be no need since the the
all users shortcuts appear for all users that logon.

Uh oh....
Well I guess for the present I'll keep on keeping on. I'm a recent convert
from Windows 98SE (got to keep up with the times), so my familiarity with
W2K was/is as an end user at work. It's a single user machine, so it's
possible that there won't be a real world downside beyond living with the
realization that I somehow messed up.

Just a heads up that there apparently is more hidden corruption than you
thought.
