I have 2 (probably related) problems using XP home:

1] For one user only, the start menu has suddenly started displaying only
half the installed programs. To get at the rest you have to click on a
double chevron icon at the bottom of the menu. It never used to do this.

2] I set all folder to detailed view but enabled "remember last view" so I
could customize a couple of folders to icon view. For the same user as in
[1], and starting at the same time, the control panel will no longer
remember it is set to icon view and keeps going back to detailed view.

All other user accounts gets the full start menu and control panel displays
in icon view.

Anybody know how I can reset whatever it is that causes this?

Right click the 'Start Menu' button. Go
to 'Properties', 'Classic Windows', 'Customize' then
uncheck the last item on the list 'Use Personalized
Menus.'

Lorne;
For #1:
Try this: Right click Start/Properties/Start Menu tab/Customize
button/Advanced tab/scroll down to: Scroll Programs, UNcheck it, if it is
checked/Uncheck: Show Small Icons in Start menu, if it is checked./OK and Apply
your way
out.
Scroll Programs specifies whether to display the items on the
Programs menu as one long scrolling menu or as horizontal pages. Depending on
your screen
resolution, if you have more than 29 or 38 programs installed, and you select to
have one
long scrolling menu, you can access the programs you don't see by clicking the
arrow at
each end of the list of programs. With this item UNchecked; your
program listings cover the screen.
