All of a sudden, every time i shut down/restart all the items on the left
side of my start menu dissappear. I don't know if i set this up unknowingly
but i cant get it to stop doing that. Anyone know what to do about this? I've
been messing around with this for about a month now and i give up!

bloke53,

Before giving you any suggestions, is this XP Embedded related question?
If ot and you are strugling with XP Home/Pro, you would better off posting your question to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
newsgroup.

KM, What's your rational and how would i know if this is related to windows
xp or not. I'm a novice at this, in fact this was the first post i ever made.
Now your gonna give me a complex. I dont know where this problem emanates
from, if i did i'd know where to put it. Actually if i knew the origin the
likeliehood is i'd be able to find the solution!

bloke53,

Well.. I always thought people would at least know what OS they have
installed on thier computers.
I suspected you've got XP (Hoe or Pro) installed on yours and thus directed
you to the right NG: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

If you are not sure what OS you have, please contact your computer
manufacturer. They should be able to help you.

He he he, silly me. I'd really never heard the term "embedded" until the war
in Iraq and i surmised (wrongly, it turns out),- no laughing out loud please
- it to mean in this context, that since i purchased this computer with xp
already installed, that ... it.....meant ........it .............. was
embedded!! There i told you. So now that i've made a complete fool of myself,
i'll be on my merry way then shall i?
Actually I'd like to make this comment. I'm well aware how long computers
have been around but i resisted them for years, fearing i would never get out
of my office once i get a computer. Well i finally broke down about a year
ago and bought this computer and i was dead right! i cant tear myself away
from this thing. There go all tthe house projects i was planning on doing. My
observation and sometimesto my utter frustration. i find that just about
every where i go on this computer people take for granted that everybody else
understands the language ( and i mean that in an all encompasingal way - that
everything and everybody and all the terminology, practices, policies etc is
the the language. Some of what we do now are everyday practice and 2nd nature
to most, except me! I'm still thinking in non computer language and i see
things and interpret them in a very objective and mechanical way. When i'm
looking for the answer, from my own language i expect to find the answers in
a logical place simply based upon common sense. But it dosn't work in this
world. It's a whole new language not, i feel based on anything close to the
laguage i was taught and practised all my life ( i'm 53

The frustration is that however much today's computer users assume that they
are dealing with people that like themselves, everyone else knows and
understands the language the way they do to varying degrees. Well, they're
all wrong because sometimes i just dont get it (whoever thought up the names
of some this language must have come from outer space and that's why i dont
get .... sometimes!!!!!) Thanks for the tip. i'll see you over there wherever
it was you directed me to.

And ps, so that you dont become disilusioned, yes i do know my os, i just
liked the way embedded sounded and thought i would tack it on for looks.
Silly me!

Hi,

Windows XP Embedded is different OS that we build using MS tools and it
share same binaries as Windows XP Pro. We could help you out but for this
and most other XP Pro related problems you have much larger communities that
will give you much better and accurate answers in easier "non out of space"
terms and much faster.

If you are interested in knowing about what "Windows XP Embedded" is follow

PS:
In this News Group we try to give answers to people that strugle withg XPe
and by default assumption should understand what we tell them. (Not always
the case but most of the time it is). In case that they do not understand or
still have problems then we (or at least I) give them easier descriptions
or more detailed list of steps.

Your explanation makes sense and i thank you for yuor help. If i dont
successfully close out this post you are welcome to do it. Will follow up as
suggested. bloke53
