Start menu disappears after 3 seconds

I use Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1.

Yesterday, I started to experience a strange problem.

When I click the Start Menu it stays open only for three seconds. If I don't
make my choice in that time, bad luck, the start menu just disappears. If I
move the mouse in the Start Menu it stays open.

I have looked at all the properties of the Start Menu, but hasn't found
anything that applies.

What's going on?

I run NAV.
