To all those tweaking gurus out there....my company is in the process of
setting up Thin Client Terminal with of course XP. Does anyone know how to
permanently hide the Start Menu, or lock out its functionality?

As well, our company is going to be using a Citrix connection via IE for the
main client interface. We are attempting to have this initially IE Screen,
and additional IE screens are the only form of interface for the users. Any
suggestions?

It seemed that he wants the IE as the shell.
Although I'd also prefer the custom shell approach, even with Explorer Shell there are some ways to hide the Start Menu and TaskBar
completely.

NWren, I was wondering why you mentioned Task Manager in the subject?

Its XP Embedded. Though Im nost sure what you mean by all you dont need you
can leave out. How exactly? Yeah, I initally put forth the concept of an IE
Shell. Though it was just shot down. So, I would be using the standard
explorer shell.

As for throwing Task Manager in there. Its basically on the idea that our
setup, some WinTerm Thin Client boxes, would be booting starting from a VB
script to launch an ICA connection. Within this connection, would it all be
funictioning through IE. I didnt get the best information when they first put
me to this task. So, the idea is to limit just about anything the user could
do on the machine. Even to the point of potenially locking out Task Manager.
Let me know if you guys have any questions and thanks a bunch for the help!

Hi,

Why don't you remove "Task Manager" component from your project?

Other way for you would be to roam trough gpedit and find and lock all
things that you want. Keep regmon started so that you can figure out what
registry entries need to be changed.

Slobodan

There is no way to "remove" or "hide" Start Menu and Taskbar completely with GPO policies.
If Explorer shell is used, you must do that with hiding the Progman and HHTaskbar windows.

Although with proper GPO policies, the Start Menu may be made useless to end user and he won't be able to do much there.
