There has been some discussion here about Vista dropping the All Programs
menu that displays out to the side in favor of a scroll-down menu.
Supposedly, this was done because we now have a Search box. However, the
Search doesn't always find what I need. For example, some of my programs
are not really programs, but shortcuts. Half-Life 2 games, for example, can
only be run from the desktop by using a shortcut. These shortcuts are never
displayed in a search (even though some of them are actually pinned to the
Start Menu).
Also, it would be nice if the Search would return results from partial
words. For example, typing "tunes" will not turn up iTunes. This is
something that MS's competitors' search products all have (I use X1
regularly at work).
I generally have over 100 items installed in the All Programs Menu, and have
a robust search is going to be important.
