"Start me up" Problems

I reinstaleld windows XP on my dell computer. When I
press the power button on my computer the start-up
sequence proceeds as normal, but the computer gets stuck
on the Welcome Screen with no message or instructions - I
have to press control-alt-del to get to the deskop
screen. Before I reinstalled XP, I normally pressed the
power button and the Windows start-up sequence by-passed
the Welcome Screen and brought me automatically to the
desktop screen. How can I can automatically bypass the
Welcome Screen and access the desktop on start-up like
before?
