I had to re-install Windows XP and all went well. But I cannot see the
bottom (task bar?) and with it START.

So turn off is somewhat awkward now.

Never had this before in any other windows OS.

fsck me. talk about cross posting!

You've probably resized it to a small 'line' at the bottom (or other edge)
of the screen, and should be able to stretch it back to normal by finding
the edge and dragging it out with your mouse.

Also possible you have screwed-up multi-monitor settings with the taskbar on
a screen which is not visible (tv out?) but I'd look at the first option
first - see if you can find the grey 'shrunk taskbar' on the edge of the
screen. Fortunately it is not possible to lock the taskbar in this position,
otherwise you might really be in a pickle (well not really but..)

HTH

I did not resize the taskbar.

I do not have a second monitor and have not changed anything there either.

Crossposting ? Yes. Because this is a problem I want to resolve quickly and
hope that more people than One are seeing this.

Thanks

I had to reduce the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels to get the
Taskbar and Start Button back.

Thanks for trying to help.

Ignore the idiot. Your reasons for crossposting are quite valid, and it
prevents you from posting into separate groups and having people try to help
you without knowing what anyone else has told you.

It's probably your video driver. Try adjusting the geometry of your monitor
then update your drivers.

Which means your display geometry is ****ed. Thanks for the help, k-man.

And folks usually won't lift a finger to help an obnoxious jerk who thinks
his problem is more important than everything else.
