Start & Exit Sound

Hi all,
I have just recently re-installed XP Home. I use
custom startup and exit .wav files and have done for
years. Suddenly for no apparent reason the files don't
play at startup end exit although all other system sounds
play fine. What have I done ? And, how do I recover from
this dilemma ?

Are your custom .wav sound files actually selected in the Sound applet
in Control Panel for the startup and shutdown sounds for Windows?

Vanguard, Yes, both are selected, 'tis a puzzlement ...

In Explorer, right-click on the .wav files and select Play. Do they
play? Also, select a different sound file and reselect your old .wav
file (to force a change but end up with the same selection). Do you
have permissions to the files and the folder they are in under the user
account you are logged in when wanting to use them?

Done that, Still no Start & Exit sound ...(All other
system sounds are playing as normal)

I'm stumped !! Am at a complete loss as to what to do
next. Have been using XP Home since its release and this
has never happened before. :-(

If you pick a *different* .wav file (than the ones you really want), do
those play at all when entering and exiting Windows?

Maybe the theme got corrupted. You could try saving it under a
different name, or start from scratch with a new theme (although you can
pick a theme to start with) and then save it as your Custom theme.
