Over a year ago I tried to set up the Fax utility on my PC, it was
unsuccessful and I didn't continue with it. I would however like to have
another go at setting it up and getting it operational.

Can I delete the first setup as I don't remember how far I got, if so, how?

Is there a good website I can go to and see how to do this procedure over
again, I am situated in Australia and am not even sure how much of a phone
number is required etc. in this location.

TIA

There should be no need to "delete the first setup"; if it didn't completely
install, there's probably nothing available to uninstall.
Installing/re-installing Fax is done from Add/Remove Programs in the Control
Panel. If it should fail to install properly, start here:

2. Why can't the XP Fax Installation Program find the Installation Files?

If it finds all the necessary files, but doesn't install them correctly. Its
likely you have security data base corruption as documented here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00270202
HP and Compaq Notebook PCs: Unable to Install Windows XP Fax Software

I can report that the Esentutl utility has corrected the problem in a number
of cases, HOWEVER, note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the
utility and would prefer you try the hotfix.

Thanks for all that information.

One other question, when testing out sending a Fax can you send a test fax
to yourself?

Thanks

Not directly, about the best you can do is send a Fax to a stand-alone
machine (if you have one) or a friend with a Fax machine. In the original
"At Work" Fax system, you could send a fax to [Fax:me]; this would test
everything but the modem. Sadly, this feature was abandoned.
