Hello all. I am running an STK L180 tape library for all backups on
our domain. The server is Win 2k3 using Veritas NetBackup 4.5GA.

Since this library keeps time itself, does anyone know what will
happen due to the new date of DSL starting this year?

Thanks for any help!

If this is done sensible, time will be stored in a local-cloc
agnostic way, e.g. as time-since-the epoch. If so, no problem.

To make sure, ask the manufacturer though.

Asking the manufacturer is my first problem. There is no info on
their site regarding the change of DST, and the product is out of life-
cycle so there is no support.

Also, Arno, I am not sure I understand your response. Anything to
clear this up would be very appreciated.

Ah, ok. The idea is that the timestamps are in a universal
format, that does not represent DST or the like or even
geographical position. Under Unix that is standard. The
method is called time-since-te-epoch, i.e. UTC seconds sine
1.1.1970. Transformation into local time is only done for
display or the like. The effect is that DST has no impact
and your back-up server can alos be in an netirely different
timezone.

I would expect that the tape library uses something like this,
i.e. a global time. Theis time is then used for all remote accesses
as well. But I cannot be sure, after all this is in the Microsoft
world.
