I replaced two ink cartridges of my Epson Stylus CX 4600 with the
"equivalent" ones sold by Staplers. Although they indeed fitted into
the slots with a click sound, one of them was not recognized. Does
anyone have similar experiences and hopefully solutions?

DATS WHAT YOU GET.

Take it back to staples?

This isn't uncommon. It can be caused by:

The chip not being properly reset or having failed
The chip contacts being dirty, not making proper contact
The contacts in the head assembly being dirty (the little and brittle
wires that touch the chip surface upon installation).

Some Staples cartridges are remanufactured, and they may require
exchange if they don't work.
