Hope someone can help me.

This morning i was using my desktop fine, on leaving I put my computer into standby using the task manager. On hitting the start button the computer turns on but with nothing on the screen. Fans work and lights work but no signal to the screen. If I can't get a signal to the monitor how can I solve the problem? Many thanks in advance.

Welcome,

You could just press and hold the power button to turn it off, if you cant get a signal on screen i dont think theres much else you can do...

What OS by the way?

So after powering it back up you still get no signal?

That could mean the graphics card has died. How old is is the PC?

Can you be any more specific as to the model?

Its 6 years old so its entirely possible the graphics card or chip if its onboard could have failed.

Chances of it being the cable? I'd say slim to none to be honest. Though speaking of the cable you have checked the connections are all good and not come unplugged?

Yes all connections sound. It's Packard Bell IP 6800SL AMD 64.

I think there are two graphics cards installed. It was a powerful machine when I bought it in 2005.

That was an issue sorted a few months ago. Everything has been running fine since then all day and every day. As I have no other explanation for the problem I guess I shall assume it's my graphics card causing the problem.
