Steve

Hello,
I have a small AD network (1 forest, 1 domain, 1 domain
controller) and I am adding a second comain controller. I
have come across several references that advise assigning
one of the domain controllers the operations manager and
the other domain controller a standby operations manager.
I cannot seem to figure out where I should perform such a
configuration. If anyone can point me in the right
direction, I'd be greatful.
Thank you
Steve

I think they were referring to the 5 FSMO roles that can only be on to a
domain/forest.

I'm not sure what you might be talking about unless it is realted to
the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM). You might want to check out
this site.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the quick response.
I totally screwed up in my last message I meant Operations
Master not Manager.
I have seen references to Standby Operations Master in two
locations:
In Chapter 5,on page 123 of
The Windows 2000 Administrator's Pocket Consultant
2nd ED by William Stanek states as follows:

"When a domain has two or more domain controllers, you
should configure two controllers to handle operations
master roles. Here, you would make one domain controller
the operations master and the second the standby
operations master. The standby operations master is then
used if the primary fails."

I came across the same reference on Microsofts Web Site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/server/help/default
..asp?
url=/windows2000/en/server/help/sag_ADplanningFSMOlocations
..htm
