John

I have just purchased a new system with XP Home edition on
it. This my problem. When you go to the start menu to
shut down the "standby" option is greyed out and cannot be
selected. My other XP Home system does not have this
problem. Any ideas how to correct this?

Thanks,
John

.
John it is easy to get it working!!!

press Stare > Control Panel > Power Options > When you
get into Power Options, it should be easy to set the
stand by etc. and if that doesnt work post a new message
and I will get back to you!!

That will change the power function for the on/off
button. I still want to be able to power off at times and
not just go into standby. By changing that selection my
understanding is that I will no longer have the option to
power off the system. Please correct me if I am wrong and
let me know you thoughts or any other info that you may
find of use.

Thanks again....

Standby problems are often associated with corrupt video drivers.
Reinstall your video drivers (a good time to look for updates since
your new system likely doesn't have the most current drivers), then
reboot.

Although not connected with your standby problem, you've put up a
firewall, right?

I have already downloaded all current drivers from
Microsoft as well as direct from hp's site. Yes, I do
have a firewall on all of my home systems.
