Hi,
When leaving my PC for a few hours I never know whether to put it into
standby, hibernate or shut it down. Any advice please?
Personal "rules of thumb"--these have worked for me.
-I use Standby if I'm going to be away form the computer BUT still home,
because it is still on albeit in reduced power level.
-I use Hibernate if I'm leaving home ; bad experience in unrelated matters
taught me that leaving electronic equipment unattended is not a good idea.
As I understand it, this puts the current Desktop on HD free space and
removes electrical power. Does take a bit longer to come back up, re: the
graph at the bottom of screen.
-I Shut Down nightly. This is probably a remnant from my old Windows 9x
days, but it was stated back then that only a full shutdown would allow the
computer to do some necessary "house cleaning", like clearing many temp
files and other reorganization matters. (Bet I hear about this one (
)
Again, these are personal preferences, passed along FWIW.
