Hi

I'm just starting to learn PowerPoint and am working through a book
that tells me that if the 'Zoom' button hasn't been used for a while it
may be on the Standard Toolbar flyout instead.

Can someone explain to me what this means exactly and whether or not it
applies to any other buttons apart from 'Zoom'.

I wondered if the button disappears and if that means that if a button
hasn't been used for a while it gets zapped somewhere else?

Thanks a lot!

Dear Mashed Monster

That's good that you are trying to learn powerpoint.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the "zoom" button on the toolbar or
the "zoom" option on the "View" menu.
To the best of my knowledge the "zoom" button on the toolbar is always
there.
I've not heard of options disappearing if they are not used.

On later versions of powerpoint, on the standard menus, if you haven't used
a feature before, then it's not displayed. Instead powerpoint displays a
sort of double ^^ at the bottom of each menu. When you click that the "full"
drop down menu is shown. The "Zoom" option is on the "view" menu. If you
haven't used it before then it's not shown until you click the "^^"

If you standard toolbars are messed up...you can "reset" them using..

Customize
Toolbars
Reset button

As far as I read it in the book that I'm looking at, it's the button
they're talking about.

Thanx for your help

I'm not sure what version of PowerPoint you are using. Please always tell
us. In PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, I suggest that you go to View > Toolbars >
Customize > Options and check the box next to "Always show full menus".
That way you'll see the full menu each time.

Also be sure that when you go to View > Toolbars that "Standard" is checked.
If it is, you should see a white box on your toolbar with a percentage
displayed in it. This is the zoom button.
