Standard Port Monitor (SPM) and SNMP

How does Standard Port Monitor in Windows 2000 read the SNMP settings on an
IP network printer (like an HP 8100)? Does the printer need to be set with
a community of "public" for the server to read the SNMP printer
configuration?

By default it looks for public but you can manually configure the port for
whatever community name you are using.
