You want a "clustered stacked column chart", of which you can find
examples by googling this expression

www.google.com/search?q=clustered+stacked+column+chart

The first hit takes you to Jon Peltier's site:

peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsHowTo/ClusterStack.html

He points to worked examples by Bernard Liengme and Andy Pope

www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme/ExcelTips/Columns.htm.

andypope.info/charts/stackside.htm

The key mental trick is to pretend that the "unstacked" columns are
really stacked, but that they just happen to only have one populated
row, and the stacked columns "contain" a row for expenditure, but it
happens to be empty. Arrange your data like this:

FY03 FY04 FY05
Rev Exp Rev Exp Rev Exp
Private 1,501 2,598 7,030
State 821 3,467 20,414
Ship 15,807 19,234 23,902
Flowthru 10,036 10,595 13,370
Federal 68,276 1,604 63,199
Total 132,145 128,672 125,672

Set the gap between columns in the chart to zero, and create "gaps"
between the clusters by having empty spreadsheet columns.

I'll check it out and thank you for your quick response to my question. I'm
so glad to have access to great MVP's like yourself. It is truly appreciated.

Thank you. However, Jon, Bernard and Andy are MVPs; I'm just a fellow
Excel user.
