Thinking of buying a Seagate ST3160023AS (160gb, 8.5ms, 8mb cache,
serial ATA, 5 year warranty). Any opinions/feedback, please?

storagereview doesn't seem to have reviewed this model yet.

Thanks.

I've got 2 of these running in my XP machine for the last 5 or 6 months.
Never a problem, but they do get VERY hot. You need a least a front case
fan blowing air on them. With the front intake fan, the drives usually
don't go above 36C degrees.

Mine is fast, doesnt get hot and I have it without any active cooling. It
has also been very reliable so far, a common thing for all the Seagates I
own. Idle is completely silent, but there is one problem. Seeks are VERY
loud! You can even hear them in a different room! There is no AAM and the
default is set to performance mode. And these stupid SMART noises that occur
every now and then drive me crazy.... Im waiting for 7200.8 and if Seagate
screws it again I will go Samsung forever. The P-ATA Spinpoint P80 that I
have is great. But Samsungs dont have native S-ATA...
