Hello,
Not being computer savvy, if someone would have an answer for me about
this pop up, I'd be very grateful. After installing Vista over XP, everytime
I "awake" my computer after a "sleep" I get the pop up listing "ssupdate.exe"
and asking me if I should allow allow it to run or not. Would anyone have
any information about what this is? I did a search of my computer of
"ssupdate.exe" but didn't find anything on it. Thanks for any info.

What is the path for ssupdate.exe? It may be legit. Don't delete something
just because you don't know for sure what it is. It may be spyware, but
make sure before removing it. If you have superantispyware installed, it
may be that.

Do you happen to be running anything from scansoft (Nuance)? I used to have
the same problem and it was because of Paperport. I updated and the problem
went away.

Do you have SpySweeper installed? If yes, then go to their site and get
the very latest version of their software.

Hi Bytesback,

Okay. Yes, I was running Windows Defender! In fact, not long ago I
read that Defender "didn't" defend in about 85% of tests! So, I uninstalled
it when I had XP. Then, with upgrading to Vista, it was automatically
downloaded to my computer. I have since gone back and uninstalled it again.
I also have Norton on my computer and Super Anti-Spyware. I've been very
impressed with Super A.S. because when I got a few viruses a few months ago,
it was so bad that I was barely able to access the Internet----Norton did not
kick out a single one but Super A.S. cleaned it up And it is a free
checker! Thanks for the info. I will now run both Anti-virus programs.
Thanks again,
Jerry

Hi Guys,

I answered all your questions individually but for some reason they
didn't appear. I'll try to make it short. (By the way, thank you everyone
for your input on my question.)
Again, I do have Super AntiSpyware and love it but today saw the files
associated with it and ssupdate.exe is listed there so I assume it is a
legitimate file. No other spyware or antivirus software on the computer
except for Norton. Nothing from scansoft either. Don't know why the pop up
just went away but it doesn't appear anymore---so I count myself lucky.
Thank you again,
Jerry
