I am trying to configure Outlook to access my ATT email
via Comcast cable modem. I cannot send! ATT says that
outgoing mail will require an SSL patch and to check your
downloads -- I can't tell if you have an appropriate patch
or not. The scan of my Office programs says I am "up-to-
date." I am using Outlook 2002. Any help regarding
configuration and SSL isues related to this would be
appreciated very much!

PS The installation discussion group appears to be off-
line.

This is a wild guess, but select Help | About Microsoft Outlook. On this
screen it should state if Outlook is at 128-bit encryption. (should be about
1/2 down in small print)

It does say 128 -- problem is that the ATT support web
page for Outlook states that the patch is needed in order
to send mail. I have set up the outgoing mail server the
way instructed by telephone support and it still will not
send. I think the tech person did not know about the
patch. Anyway, their web page (WURD)says there is a
download, but I can't figure out how to identify it among
all the "patches" that turn up when I search for it.
Seems like Microsoft would make it more easily available.
Thanks!
Maggie

Are you getting an error message back at the time of sending a message? If
yes, what is it?

Can you direct me to the web page so I can see what they are recommending?
(In this particular case, I would be leery of installing a patch that
address SSL/128bit security since it appears that you already have what you
need.)

Cheers,
/Neo

PS - You might want to verify that the secure password authentication box is
unchecked. This box does not enable SSL connectivity. If AT&T really
needs SSL connectivity, I'm thinking that you need to go into the advanced
properties of your account and go to the last tab (advanced) to turn on SSL
support.
