I have a squeek coming from left side of hp 8000n.
Can I apply a light oil to shut it up?
Only if you know exactly the spot and you apply only a very tiny
amount of oil.
My 8000 was puchased used a couple years ago. Recently it started
jamming. After much hair removal I determined the problem was with a
sensor board. To get at the sensor board required dismantling half the
printer. When I finally got to it I discovered it had a lot of light
oil on it, like sewing machine oil. The oil also coated a lot of other
parts in the area (fans, etc.). The sensor board was even stained
around the edges.
Turns out someone had oiled the machine before I bought it to stop a
squeak. Eventually it caused all kinds of havoc.
As a further thought, I have printed millions of copies on 5Si and
8000 printers. They all squeak. But if you ignore it, 15 minutes later
it stops squeaking. I suspect the squeaks are just from outer panels
or other non-moving parts that are rubbing together. Moving parts such
as bearings, gears and the like are all sealed and permanently
lubricated for the life of the part. I've never experienced any
problems from ignoring the squeaks. Your 8000 is a great printer that
will last for several million impressions.
