SQL Server 2005 Express

Hi,

Can the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express edition be used as a
Microsoft Access 2003 back-end and how is this done by using
an ADP so it reports version 9.0 of the database engine in stead of
8.0?

TIA

You can still use Access (*.mdb/*.mde) to connect to SQL Server2005/2005
Express as BE, via ODBC, as you do with SQLSever2000/MSDE. However, for
Access ADP, it will not work with SQL Server2005/Express2005, or at least,
you cannot use ADP as do with SQL Server2K/MSDE: you can still connect to
it, but you will not able to create new database object (table, view,
sp...), you can only see them. It is understandable that since SQL Server
2005 is released almost 3 years later than Access2003, so that Access2003
would not know some changes in SQL Server2005. The problem is, the prospect
of ADP is not clear at this stage. Even MS Access team recommends using
*.mdb as SQL Server2K5 FE, instead of ADP and there is no information on
whether ADP will be continued or not.
