SpywareGuard

Hi Keith - You'll find that updates are very infrequent with SpywareGuard,
since it operates primarily using heuristics, and only very occasionally
needs to updates some specific information for the things that they don't
handle. I would recommend that you continue to use it (it's very good, BTW)
and just check every now and then for updates.

It is very good? I downloaded and installed it and then tested it by
installing known spyware while spywareguard was running. No
reaction, no prevention, nothing. Looks like babyaware to me.

Is this essentially like SpywareBlaster? I've installed that and have no
idea if it actually does anything since it's not an 'active' prog - ie an
interface that displays info on what it does/does not catch. Have to go on
faith, I guess??

Hi Mike - I suppose that it depends upon just what type of spyware tries to
install. I use both IESpy-Ad and the mvps HOSTS file in addition to
SpywareBlaster and a supplement, and consequently don't get very much
exposure to 'malware' to begin with. However, even with that, SpywareGuard
does catches something about once a month or so on my main system.

Very similar, they're both from the same stable. Can't have too much of
a good thing I guess.

Anyone here using SpywareGuard?

I installed it a couple of months ago, and regularly check for updates
but there never are any.
The Protection Engine is v2.2.0, and the Definitions Date is 1/22/04,
Program Version 2.2 Anyone doing any better, or is this a redundant
program?

I personally think it's been rendered obsolete for 2000 & XP since MS's
Antispyware has real-time protection. Here's my page of the apps I use
to prevent and battle crapware:

If anyone has programs I'm missing, please let me know.

Great list. I would add...

Spyware Doctor - Freeware & Trial - $30 USD to buy

CounterSpy by SunBelt (GIANT Software Corp. surviving partner) -
15-day Trial, $15 USD to buy

HOSTS File Manager - freeware

YW, Curt - Thank you for adding the link to my Blog - I was really only
trying to point you to some additional resource links, but I appreciate the
additional exposure for the users. :)
