SpywareGuard affects W98 "Tooltips"

Ever heard of an instance where SpywareGuard ver. 2.01.001 affects the
"tooltips" when it is running. That is, when SpywareGuard is present in
Systray, the tool tips (clock date, icon "names", taskbar minimized windows
names, etc.) doesn't work. When I exit SG and close it from running and being
in the Systray, the "tooltip" functions properly again. Dell W98/SE, if that
is of any significance.

Thanks,

Hey Lucky,

Don't run the app, sorry can't help you.

Noticed a snip at bottom of main URL.

Please remember, SpywareGuard is a work-in-progress...

Hello there Jim,

I am running SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and HiJack This, Avg AV,
but not BrowserHijack Blaster. Any conflicts in this overly protective (?)
mix?

I hate to say it, and although I don't usually believe in the maxim " If 6
quarts of oil is good, 8 must be better". But when it comes to "Safe Hex",
would two "condoms" ...hurt? (that didn't turn out as I would have planned
verbally speaking)<g>

Thanks,

Hi Lucky - Be sure you're not ALSO running BrowserHijack Blaster at the same
time - they interfer with each other and can cause problems if you try and
run both. SpywareGuard does the functions of BHBlaster anyway and should be
the only one running.

Hi to you Siljaline-

You are always helpful. When you say "don't run the app", do you mean
because it is kinda "beta-ish" (I did take note of their "disclaimer"),
because of the stated issue I mentioned, or because it's just plain crappy,
or what?

But before you answer this <g>, I shall saunter over to the forum as you so
kindly pointed out. See? You can, and did, and are always helpful.

Thanks,
LuckyStrike ;-)

Yep, you were right on the mark Siljaline. There is a thread in the
Wilders.org forum on the issue. It is yet to be remedied for the long term,
but there are ways to mitigate it in part. At least Javacool is on the ball
insofar as being aware of it and will no doubt address it eventually. (I am
hoping it won't be like MS and the "~" thing.) <s>

If I could field that Lucky, running Ad-aware, SpyBot and HJT along with a good A-V
is plenty enough, you might want to consider uninstalling Spyware Guard, as we discussed
within this thread, it's kind of beta-ish <g> and might be just a tad on the overkill side.

If I could unabashedly plug Mike Burgess' HOSTS file and RENHOSTS batch file, that
would be a welcome addition to your arsenal of protection.

Siljaline,

Not being one to cast aside your recommendations as they always seem to be
well thought out, I shall strongly consider that which you have suggested.
This applies to the removal of the program as well as initiating a HOSTS
file. The "browsing convenient" URL *is* handy, thanks. ;-)

P.S.- After trying the various means of mitigating the vexing tooltips
problem that were offered at the Wilders.org forum, I found that none
offered a means of eliminating the problem for my OS. Nothing short of
disabling the program, that is. If one wishes to have "tooltips" available,
one must not have the other program enabled. I then ask, what good is it if
it is "not on duty"?

Hi Lucky - No, AFAIK there are no conflicts in that set. I don't think I'm
going to follow up on your analogy, :) , but I run all of those except for
(currently) AVG and some other things besides, so I'm in general agreement.
One thing though - you didn't mention a firewall, and IMO, everyone should
have a good hardware or software firewall in place. So, if you don't have
one, you should certainly add it - one of the free ones will do just fine,
although I don't favor the native XP firewall, since it doesn't handle
outbounds.

Greetings Jim,

Well, that is comforting to know. Of course the only conflict is the actual
"bug" in the SpywareGuard that makes the "Tooltip/tool info" problem in the
first place. Good thing it's only in conflict with itself and tooltip so to
speak.<G>

Now Jim, for no particular reason I failed to mention the firewall. The very
*First* thing I obtained as an "aftermarket" add-on for the PC was a
firewall. I had at first, due to my naiveté bought one, and even though it
is an item that was purchased, I have been relatively pleased with it (Za
Pro).

I appreciate your kindness in looking out for my PC's well being.

Kind Regards,
LuckyStrike
