A few weeks ado, I installed liberty basic for a class I
was taking. Now microsoft antispyware is reporting the
following file as spyware:
C:\program files\liberty basic v4.02\uninstall.exe

Does anyone know if it is realy a problem or if it is a
false positive.

It is also being reported by Trend Micro. I send a
question to them about it. The last message I had from
them was that they are investigating. Now it is being
reported by Micorsoft Antispyware also.

I don't want to remove it unless it is really a prolbem.

Would appreciate any information.

Thanks, Fay

Hi Fay

Ive just installed this and I got the Red Alert pop up
for "ABCScrabble Software Bundler" when clicking the
uninstall file. I would say this is a false positive ,

If you try to use the unistaller you get a Red Alert Pop
Up for ABCScrabble but if you shut down the real time
protection and allow the "Spyware Threat" to run it then
just uninstalled Liberty Basic and its a clean uninstall,
it removes all its files and folders so I cannot see any
reason to think Liberty Basic is a threat

The ABCScrabble is from 2M Games and was being bundled
with alot of junk with little warning to the users ,it
did state the tool is ad supported but didnt say the
names of what gets installed, These included "IST,
NavHelper, InternetOptimizer, Slotchbar, Bullseye
Network, Powerscan, SideFind, FavoriteMan, DyFuca,
Netpal" And also included Browser Hijacks and
Redirections of search results .

If I was you Id ignore the detection and leave it on the
system and wait for a couple more definition files to be
released as they may realize they have made a mistake and
remove the reference to this unistallation file,I can see
no connection to ABCScrabble and the uninstaller works
fine and removes Liberty Basic so I'd say the MS team
have got this one wrong.

Andy

Andy,

Thanks for your input. I will just ignore it, at least
for now. Trend Micros is also suppose to be looking into
this. I'll se if they still report it after they make
their next relase.

Thanks again,

Fay

Seems like its just a problem file for Trend and MSAS
Thanks for posting about this, I'm sure it will be
removed from the definitions once they can understand why
its being mixed up with ABCScrabble :)
