This is probably going to sound silly, but, does a
program need to say that it offers, virus and spyware
protection. Or, are they the same.

No they are different, Alot of products would not give
full protection against All Spyware and Viruses in the
same product as there is too many variants and signatures
and the program really wouldnt be able to keep up with
the malware producers.

There is many Security Suite products that offer
protection against both but they may lack the full
protection you would get if you had a strong Antivirus
and a strong Antispy application running together.

Its a good idea to have Antivirus,Antispy and Firewall
installed to prevent problems with malware, I know alot
of companies are looking at the idea of one complete
solution but personally I find having one program that
gives Virus protection, one that gives Firewall
Protection and another that gives Antispy protection
gives me alot more confidence in its ability than a
product that claims to block everything but maybe others
will have different views on this.

You might want to try Trend Micro _PcCillin 2006 beta.
It is doing an excellent for both and handles items the MSAS is not yet
handling. Also Ewido is very good.

Hi Ira

Ewido is great for Spyware/Dialers & Some Trojans but not
great on blocking or detecting Viruses although it is
compatable with alot of AntiVirus programs so would add
extra security, It is very good though and I appreciate
the work they do to make removal alot easier,

PcCillin beta sounds good but its a shame the beta only
lasts for another 10 days and you have to give full
details to zoomerang.com to take part, I will wait for a
response from them and try it out against the common
nasties and see how well it does thats if they do reply.

I have lots of protection products like SpySweeper,
SpywareBlaster, MSAS, ZoneAlarm, CAeTrust, Ewido,
Adaware, Spybot S&D etc.. so I couldnt imagine deleting
all them to just use one for everything, I think they all
detect different things so its best to have a few on the
system to be sure it stays clean, Again this is just
myown view so I appreciate its not shared by everyone.

Thanks

Andy

Andy, I fully agree wwith you about multiple AS programs. We seem to have
similar tastes, I also have Spybot S&D,AdAware,Ewido,CCleaner, Windows Reg
Repair, MSAS and PCcillin2006. As most of the others handle cookies they
naturally find more than MSAS does.
I am very anxious to see if Bata 2 has done anything about this, I think
that currently they are in the position of "Catch Up" and should get into a
position of playing on a level field..
In the MSAS newsgroups the major complaint is regarding things MSAS doesn't
find. Almost all of what they don't find is cookie related so I don't pay
much attention to that type of post any longer. Enough pontificating.
Have a good day.
