I have found that if I don't modify the users permissions on the Program
Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware folder, I get unexpected results when the logged
on users just has user rights. Power users have modify for the folder so I
have given the same to users. This has fixed redudancy in the messages that
spyware sends to the desktop.

Thanks. There are also permission issues on registry keys, I believe. This
will all change for the better with beta2, Windows Defender, which we expect
to see by March 31. So--Microsoft is aware of these issues, has a plan to
deal with them, and we should see the result soon!

Haven't found any registry keys that deal with user settings or
notifications, but I'm sure there are bound to be permission issues with the
registry too. I am just glad that I could stop the users with user rights
only from seeing the same message over and over again.

I hope your users appreciate the work you've done! Thanks for posting it
here.

(Maybe I should just create a sig line with a "countdown to beta2" counter
in it!)
Bill Sanderson, awaiting beta2 in less than 51 days.
