I couldn't begin to help with the registry but download, install,
update and run the following:

AdAware, <http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/>
Spybot Search & Destroy, <http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html>
a-squared <http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/>

Pay attention with a-squared, they will ask you to register it during
the installation.

BHODemon 2.0.0.22 free
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3550.

Think of BHODemon as a guardian for your Internet browser: it protects you from
unknown Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), by letting you enable/disable them
individually. BHODemon is free, runs in the tray area, and works on Windows 95
or later operating systems.

CWShredder v2.1.4 free

Even if your PC has Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy, you still can't
stop some versions of an insidious and virus-like pest called CoolWebSearch.
Fortunately, a Dutch student who goes simply by the name Merijn wrote a
tiny free tool called CWShredder that specializes in removing dozens of CWS
variants. InterMute bought the program and now maintains it as a standalone
download and bundled with SpySubtract Pro. The following link downloads the
standalone version of CWShredder.

Is ad-aware saying it has fixed the problem after you tell it to?

Give spybot a go though, I use both...

apart from what others said...

I use Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and the Microsoft
Antispyware tool. I run them one after the other, in Safe Mode,
twice. THEN I run an antivirus package that knows some spyware
to find stuff that's hidden where the antispyware progs don't
look, or is encrypted.
...and then I do it all again, in normal Windows mode.

And disable System Restore before you start, but re-enable it
once you're clean - occasionally you can just rollback when you
have problems instead of doing a full cleanup.
