I have a big problem. Apparently I have picked up some
spyware on my computer that is taking over IE. As I am
surfing, a page suddenly becomes unavailable and my
browser is re-directed to a shopnav search page. Once
this happens, whichever page I was on becomes unavailable
in the future - meaning that if I try to return to that
webpage, it takes me to this shopnav webpage. Please help!

That @#%*! ShopNav is a real pain! Not only does it
redirect your browser everytime there's a 404 error, but
it also sets itself as your default search method. The
ShopNav search results leave much to be desired-being
comprised of nothing but paid links. I finially got rid
of it thank God! Yes, Adaware will remove it. You'll
have to go into IE options to reset your default search
engine though.

I have a very similar problem as it relates to a Chinese language newspaper site (www. worldjournal.com). When I try to load it I get "Page cannot be displayed error." It works from every other computer in the house. I do recall that there was a page that popped up here once and then after I clicked "no" to download, then I can no longer get to the World Journal page. Every other web site seems to work fine. I have tried to delete my cookies files and the "index.dat" file to no avail. Lastly after seeing this post, I tried Ad-Aware which found a couple things which I deleted, however still having problems with the reference site on this computer

Check for a HOSTS file (no extension- just HOSTS- not HOSTS.SAM)(possibly in
C:\WINDOWS) Open it with notepad and look for redirect entries.
Hosts file information at http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/

You mighty also run:
Spybot S&D ... http://www.safer-networking.org/ (about 3.5 MB)
Update before use- remove items listed in red- others are optional.

CWShredder- Merijn.org: http://www.merijn.org/downloads.html

Additional information, including security tips at:

Hope this helps,
