Thank you, Randy. Your post should be permanently fixed as the top item on
all the newgroups, IMHO.

Nice job Randy. A very useful referencing site with all the major nasties
presented in one place - clearly presented and easy to follow instructions.

Hi Randy and Stu

Also include this one:

http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal_and_Prevention:_Overview

With Bleepings and Castlecops "helpyourself" probably 99% of all
users infests can be cleaned.

My personal opinion is to include Ewido and CCleaner within every
cleaning beacuse these PCs often are totally jammed with the bad guys
offers...... and the absolute majority indeed have visted Internets
backyards.

More and more users admits where they got infected and I believe
this must be discussed within the Internet community

prOn, gambling, cracks, p2p, warez........

If I was MS I maybe didn´t include any removals/blocks beacuse of this
????

A user which looks for a validation crack and gets infested with
Vundo or Smitfraud should MS care about it ??????

Should the "Cleaning" community help these users ???

http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/

But this is now spreading to more normal sites so this is a problem !

Hi Plun

Agreed. Interesting to note Ccleaner figures in the cleaning process of the
probs at some stage or other. Ewido? Wouldn`t do without it. Great URl
www.Malawarecomplaintsinfo? Testimony to the many who have fallen victim.
This site should serve as a warning to the internet community. Like, you
could be next? Seriously hacks me off AS companies (MS excepted) make their
monies from the ignorance and trust in the belief the professionals will do
the right thing by solving their probs. I`m convinced that it will ultimately
come down to raising user awareness with good AS backup. Bit like now I
guess. That is, stay away from those sites you instinctively know are likely
to give a problem. Sadly that can only be achieved by way of raising `user
awareness`. Its a slow uphill battle, but with the determination of all,
would like to think one which is slowly being won. Perhaps a theme for MS. If
they haven`t already thought of it.

Thought. Have you ever stopped to consider how many programs/advertisements
you have seen on TV relating the unhealthy nature of MacDonalds burgers and
smoking on your health? There have been loads here until you feel physically
sick, seriously take notice and become AWARE of the dangers to your health.
And yet, what sort of similar advertising is there on market which brings
home the same message and impact? Security of your PC - here we have a
pathetic `one` and that falls far short of bringing the message home. Point
is, there seems to be little acknowledgement of the internet where the medium
of TV is concerned - they don`t seem to gel. While different governments
have different approaches to the same problem. I`m sure Bill G could use much
of his influence to influence matters. <smile> Lets have an `Internet
Awareness Day` - or two.

Hi Stu

It must be an open debate about this.........

I have helped users which goes to places like this:
http://hem.bredband.net/b288305/pb2.jpg

It´s mostly Errorsafe nowadays.

Either users takes the wrong patch, wrong URL or Push the button....

In swedish we have a name when you put on your "stupid hat". ;)

I can stand ads beacuse some users likes ads but it´s up to them.
On TV it´s really easy to zap away from it. I cannot understand why
ads is much better when you visit a real Cinema ;)

Nevertheless we have 2 different types of Internet hijacks, within the
backyard and then for example Best offers/abtterinternet, 180 Solutions
etc and they are indeed different.

In the backyard it is carier trojans, Vundo, Smitfraud etc and all
users must learn this.

And MS must probably change attityde about licenses for XP and Vista,
within one houshold it must be possible to use one license for 2 or 3
PCs. I checked around in my neighbourhood and mostly all familys has 1
or 2 licenses but also then running 1 or 2 without, often "young
masters" which fixes cracks and also clicks on Free Scan>Errorsafe....
Goodnight ;) and a angry father within this family ;)
