I continually get popups saying that windows has detected
spyware on the PC and to fix it I must click OK to
download free software to stop the problem.. however it
isn't from Microsoft Windows but another scam company.
Where can I download free software that will block all
these pop ups about spyware? Or what brand of software is
the best to purchase?

Many of these Scam Pop-ups are not defeated by your average Pop-up blocker.
The most effective way to prevent them with IE6 is to (unfortunately)
disable Active Scripting. If Active Scripting is enabled, the Google toolbar
which has a "decent" pop-up blocker is foiled as well.

Insofar as Pop-up blockers are concerned, I have heard that AdShield is one
of the better ones and is still freeware if one uses an older version. The
latest version is no longer freeware.

The list below is from "Acadia" and was posted on the Wilders Security
Forums

Some popup blockers.
All of these are 100% pure freeware, no trial periods. Some of these
do more than just handle popups.
