Hi! On our Windows 2000 Server SP4, after uninstalling
the AntiSpyWare it left our server problematic. Messenger
service was disabled and cannot be launch from the
service applet to enable it. I can't even launch the
network applet. I tried reinstalling W2K SP4 but it hangs
before it can install. Other services such as the ADC
can't be enabled. We tried scanning for virus but found
none. Also, the server is always updated on QFEs.

Is there a way to verify if this was cause by the
uninstallation of the AntiSpyWare program? How can I make
sure that it has been cleanly uninstalled?

Many thanks!
MarS

Sorry I can't offer advice but let us all take a lesson
from this poor guy's experience - and listen carefully to
the preiously given advice - DON'T INSTALL THIS PRODUCT ON
A LIVE PRODUCTION SYSTEM - IT'S STILL A BETA!

This is an unusual set of symptoms. I think it is unlikely that simple
installation and uninstallation of Microsoft Antispyware would cause them.

Setting the messenger service not to start is a standard recommendation of
Microsoft Antispyware. What is the reason that you need it running?

At a command prompt: sc queryex messenger <enter> should show whether the
messenger service's startup is set to disabled or not.

and
sc config messenger start= auto <enter> should set it to auto-start

sc start messenger <enter> should start it

This seems the least of your problems, however.

When Microsoft Antispyware is uninstalled, it leaves behind some files in
the program files\microsoft antispyware directory. I don't have a list of
these to give you for a clean uninstall, but you should be able to
successfully delete all of these and the directory itself, and I believe
there should be no .exe files.

If you look at your list of running services, I would look for services
starting with gc or GIANT. These names are used by the beta product, but I
can't be certain no other product uses similar names.

Can you explain what happened on the attempted reinstall?
