I'm just about to start a Spyware Guide, as we get lots of people unsure about SpyBot, Adaware, trojans etc... so it should be quite useful!

Does anyone have any particular programs they would recommend, as I'm going to give them all a go. I've got the ones in Muck's sig already ;)

AntiVir & AVG Anti Virus are both good freebie AV programs.

I've just switched from AVG to AntiVir as AntiVir has the ability to stop Trojans whilst they're running, unlike AVG's offering. I still think AVG is good though, especially for free.

Dear Ian

I think that's a brilliant idea - one little suggestion from me - can it be made fairly clear for people who know what they want the programme to do but don't know which one to go for. I had so many at one stage I didn't know what was what. Also - soemthing basic about what users actually need etc.....

Perhaps a FAQ section - I would be more than happy to contribute to the question side of things on behalf of those of us who don't know that much but do want to gain a better understanding in an informed way.

Anyway, just a thought.

Zone Alarm, Spyware Blaster, Ad Aware, Spy Hunter are a few i use. As for an anti virus, i dont have one installed at the mo, i just use a free online scan.

Don't worry Gabriella, I'll make it very comprehensive and easy to understand :) I'm going to aim to make it the definitive guide out there, so I'll get plenty of feedback along the way from the forums by posting what I have so far at various points. Any tips which you think you'd like answered would be great :D

Dear Matt Jason

I have Hijack but to be honest haven't the foggiest clue what to do with the stuff it comes up with - I'm not saying it isn't an OK piece of gear to have but I do wonder whether it could be a bit dodgy in let's say inexpereinced hands. You do need to know what you are looking for. I did 'zap' something with it a while ago but needed some help from the guys here to 'read' the log and advise me.

Perhaps the logs results/examples of this would be good to include in the guide that Ian is thinking about??

I have just checked out HijackThis, and I'm going to leave it out of this guide and cover it seperatly. It looks too complex to mention in this guide
