I'm running windows explorer, xp service pact 2. My
spyware is suppose to automatically update at 9:00am but
it never does. I have to do it manually. Any thoughts
on this?

I assume that you are logged in under an account with Administrator rights
at 9:00am, otherwise I would not expect the update to run.

If this is a serious enough issue for you to justify the following
procedure, then do the following:

1. Uninstall Microsoft AntiSpyware.
2. Delete the directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware
3. Re-install Microsoft AntiSpyware.
4. Re-configure your desired preferences.

I've tried this twice and the autoupdater still doesn't
work even with my firewall disabled. Appears to be a bug
since more than a few users have experience this.
