Just curious, how does Spyware Blaster work if its not running? The
help section says it does not need to remain open for protection to be
active.

Thanks.

It works a few different ways: With cookies, it adjusts your browser
settings to always deny certain cookies (data miners). If you have your
browser set to notify you everytime a site wants to set a cookie, you
will notice that it also has an option to "remember this answer", so if
you say no once to a cookie, it remembers it and automatically blocks
it. This automates it by adding sites known for spyware to that list.
It can set your browser settings to a more secure ( and recommended)
level. One way to see what it does is (in IE) goto "Tools" > Internet
Options > Privacy >Websites > Edit and look at that list.
Oh, I think it also 'blacklists' certain domains known for spyware by
editing your hosts file. [what is a 'hosts file':
http://accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html ] In addition it lets you
easily make a copy of your hosts file and restore it.
As far as the Active X goes, I'm not sure, but I think it edits your
registry to always deny certain ones.
