I just installed SpywareBlaster, version 3.2. I have it set to block
tracking cookies. Yet when I run a scan with Ad-Aware SE, it still finds a
few tracking cookies. Is this to be expected?

My PC is running XP Home SP2, and my web browser is IE 6 SP2.

Cookies are the LEAST of you worries. Don't sweat it.

You will still get the odd one......don't worry about it. They are just
tracking cookies. I often just go in and manually delete them.

I wasn't really worried, just curious if it was normal for Ad-Aware to
find tracking cookies that SpywareBlaster is supposed to block.

I use Spybot to detect adware/spyware and occasionally it shows a
program called Wild Tangent. I looked up this program on the internet
and it's related to showing video, I think.

Spybot eventually gets rid of it but I'm curious as to how or why the
program appears on my computer.

Does the fact that my son uses the computer have any relevance to
this?

Probably; WildTangent is "a leading online game distributor"
http://www.wildtangent.com

They sell games online and their software is used to distribute the
game (both as a single all-in-one installer or to "stream" gamedata
down to the client as needed, depending on the whims of the game
designer), provide some copy protection, and as spyware/adware
(including how much time you spend online or playing the game).

Its probable that your son installed one of these games, which is how
it got onto your system in the first place, and everytime he plays the
game again it reinstalls the spyware portion (or perhaps your son,
upset that his game is no longer working because WildTangent was
removed, is just reinstalling it)

How to remove Wild Tangent?

I think WildTangent is a program that is quietly bundled with the
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) program, another reason I don't use AIM anymore.

It is bundled with AIM. However, it is only installed if you want to
be able to play online games using AIM.

It appears to be bundled with, at least some, models of HP computers. I
had to do a system restore last night on a friend's computer and Wild
Tangent was re-installed automatically.
