There's a recommendation that you uninstall or disable other antispyware or
security products while installing Microsoft Antispyware, but otherwise I
don't remember hearing about conflicts here.

Sir,
I have win98 operating system and it is infected with
spware. What can i do to remove this virus from my pc.

If you have a virus, you need an antivirus. Here are some online antivirus
scanners which can help do a one-time cleaning of your system:

http://security.symantec.com (Symantec/Norton)
http://housecall.antivirus.com (Trend Micro)

Much of the advice and the videos at these URL's is applicable to your
system:

Bill;

I have found that I leave open a very few programs. This eliminates the
conflicts. Some good ant-spyware programs require that you uninstall what
they call conflicting programs. When that happens I don't want that program
after all it's my computer and I control what is on the machine and runs.

But I run all the anti- programs one at a time and never more than one at a
time. This has eliminated any conflicts that might exist.

I only keep open my zone alarm pro and my nod32 to check email. I run most
of my anti programs at night when I'm not working with other productive
programs. I have had no freeze ups or conflicts using them this way.

None but the two mentioned above open when I boot up.

How does this sound to you?

Well - a number of installation routines I've seen--most recently something
that I ran today on a Mac G5--can't recall just what--recommend that you
disable antivirus real-time scanning during product installs, and I can say
that I have seen reports of issues with that.

The recommendation is to do this just during the installation of the
product, and not afterwards.

I don't normally remember to do anything special during installs, and have
installed Microsoft Antispyware on dozens of machines without taking that
precaution. There was one post here, however, of a perplexing install issue
which turned out to hinge on a misunderstood blocking prompt from a
third-party product ocurring during the Microsoft Antispyware install.

I've found that there is safety in keeping as few programs open as possible
while installing new programs.

Different strokes....

Yep. There's safety in keeping as few programs open as possible period.
Especially all those little critters that hang out in the system tray. The
machines I work with mainly are corporate desktops, and they stay pretty
clean.

I have SpySweeper, MS AS 1.0Beta, SpyBot Search and Destroy, Spyware Gaurd,
etc... all installed and running at the same time. And no problems. In
windows XP home and Pro. Though I did make sure that none of them were
running during the install of MS AS 1.0 Beta.
