.Yeah use your finger and uncheck it, better yet try out
Firefox and Opera. I use both side by side, 3 comps, no
cooties for 1.5 years now. I only wake up IE only to
knock the cobwebs off it once in awhile. I use it only
for the auto updates or when I want to do a manual
update. Nothing but problems for 7 years now with IE.
Been Hijacked too many times to honestly say I enjoy the
internet anymore Now with this Beta1 thing too to
appearently watch over IE
so your browsing experience can remain more enjoyable
using activeX, Javascript and all the cookies that go
along with it, Microsoft is on the right path to offering
something for free. Lord knows the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$spent on
antispyware programs to right the wrongs inherent in IE,
they got your money, I'll take the freebie Firefox and
Opera anyday...I even donated to the cause, I haven't so
far needed any antispyware programs..and I'm enjoying the
net again...goodluck..support your local hijacker, info
steeling, advertising, and antispyware support commerce
on the net...its good for the economy

Bill,
Spynet opens for me on either IE or Firefox now, 11 AM PDT.

Interesting. I'll do some checking via Remote Desktop--I can test by at
least one other ISP than my own.

For me, entering www.spynet.com or clicking on a shortcut with those
properties, takes me to:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

which is strange!

(and I've tested this on multiple machines, but all with the same
ISP--Verizon)

Nope--doesn't work via a client who uses Covad, I believe.

That it is working for you is a good sign--looks like maybe they are moving
it in-house, and the DNS is just taking awhile to propagate.

Spynet.com is answering with "check for updates", Tcpview log:

It is impossible to tracert or ping spynet or any
microsoft.com adresses. I think
MS removed any answers.

This program is great for ping issues.

I'm not surprised that you can't ping into MS territory--that's normal, and
a protection for them, I believe.

I think they are moving.

Savvis do load balancing, etc, for Microsoft. They have the advantage of
doing it using Windows machines, versus that other outfit which used Linux,
and gave rise to press reports that Microsoft web sites were hosted on
Linux.
