2-18-05 My laptop was invaded by SPYFALCON. Look below to see what it is.
Microsoft Defender stated it succeeded to clean it out. NO WAY! Every reboot
kept re-installing the software and forcing me to uninstall it. It also
continuously flashed its XP like icon in the system tray (see below for more
info). Now to be fair to MS Defender, both Spybot and Adaware SE also stated
that they had success in cleaning it out of my system. But to no avail. This
PEST was back with a vengence after each reboot. However do not worry. I
found the solution some where else:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43659.html . READ CAREFULLY and
proceed slowly. Make sure you understand it and then follow it to the
letter. Now to be fair to MS Defender, it is still in BETA. So I'll give it a
free pass on this one (No pun intended). But this was a headache to say the
least. Now SPYFALCON has been around for a while. Why did not one of my
anti-spyware scanners get it? It is a cat and mouse game and I guess the
scanner can't keep up with new spyware developments and deployments.
What is it? SpyFalcon is a anti-spyware program that is known to issue fake
warnings on your computer in order to manipulate you into buying its full
commercial version. If you are infected with this program you may receive
warnings in your task bar that appear to be from Microsoft Security Center
stating that you are infected with spyware and to run its special
anti-spyware tool. This tool turns out to be the commercial version of
SpyFalcon. These warnings are fake and are a goad to have you buy the
commercial version of this software.
