Don

I was going to download spybot and on the page was a pro and con debate.
Many warned not to use the new version 1.3 as it would do everything from
wrecking the firewall to shutting down their system. Version 1.2 is not and
has not been able to download virus files since march, no longer updateable.
What is your idea on this? I have seen many postings saying to get Spybot
because it was so good. I am now afraid to use it.
Thanks, Don

Well i haven't had no real problems with it so far and i'm running it on XP
Professional with the latest Win XP Service pack 2 beta software. Now beta
software is notoriously fickle to say the least but the only problem i can
say i have had is that spybot hangs for a few seconds after it has created a
restore point prior to removing any spyware. But that is minor.
An alternative is Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.com)
You might consider creating a system restore point prior to installing
Spybot then if you do have any problems you can always restore the system
back to before you install Spybot.

Me too, ditto. There was an update today also, something
about Tea Time.

Syybot has nothing to do with viruses.

I've just tried an alternative download site (safer-networking) and,
although i got a bad checksum error the file downloaded and installed.
So i can only suggest you try an alternative download site by clicking on
the download site option button

Are you running version 1.2 or the new 1.3?

| I can not get that update to install..
|
| It generates a "bad checksum" error.

Thanks, that did work (I guess - lol) It still said bad checksum, but
got a green check mark instead of a red no-go, and it no longer shows
up as an available update.

Try a different download site.

| I have version 1.3 installed

Okay, I am beginning to think that spybot is getting buggy...

There is now another update to spybot 1.3 ( detection rules),
and I am again getting the bad checksum statement under
"information".., and once again, the program is not installing the
update from the default server... It shows installed after trying from
a different server, but still shows the checksum error.

*sigh*
