Checking for problems revealed only one...Windows Media Player. The
description follows:

"Company: Microsoft
Product: Media Player
Threat: Tracking
Company URL: http://www.microsoft.com
Company product URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.asp
Company privacy URL: http://www.microsoft.com/info/privacy.htm
Functionality
Plays multimedia files.
Description
The MS Media Player assigns a unique ID to your machine that is transmitted
each time the CD player queries the database for the name of a CD and its
titles. It may also be transmitted when downloaded codecs."

My questions:
--- If I permit Spybot to "fix" this problem, will it affect Media Player's
operation?
--- If "fixing" it renders the program inoperative what alternatives exist?
--- In what way do I stay vulnerable if I just let the program stay as is
and not correct it with Spybot?

Many thanks for the advice...

Let Spybot fix it. All it is doing is removing the "unique ID to your
machine that is transmitted each time the CD player queries the database
for the name of a CD and its titles."

Many thanks Mark for your help!

Or do it yourself. Depending on your version of WMP:

Open the Windows Media Player.

Click the Tools menu and then click the Options command.
Remove the checkmark from the Allow Internet sites to uniquely
identify your Player checkbox.

or under View Options Player Other
Remove the checkmark from the Allow Internet sites to uniquely
identify your Player checkbox.

In WMP 9 go to the Privacy tab and make sure you un-check all the
relevant check-boxes.
Click Apply and then click OK.
Close the WMP and then open it again.
